Clisson is a tiny town about 30 km away from Nantes that has a lot of Italian influences, evident in its architecture.
It was a very rainy day, but it was still beautiful! I think it was because of the bright red colors on all the buildings (signature Italian? Not sure). We walked around for a bit looking for something to do until we found the office of tourism. Once we got there, we asked the man working there what there was to do. He replied, "Drink wine with me!" and took out some bottles of specialty wine from Clisson (Muscadet and some others). We had a FREE impromptu wine tasting right there with this awesome old French guy! Then we journeyed to these ruins of a castle and did some exploration. It only cost 1,50€ to enter. For lunch, we found a kebab place and spent 5,00€! The train ride back home cost 2,50€.
If you ask me, it was all in all an excellent low-budget day trip, even in the rain!
Next on the list: the salt flats of Guérande, Mont Saint Michel, and Saint Malo!
